MAY 2008: Koru Care Charitable Trust - bringing joy into kids lives
A colleague we work closely with in the printing industry, Martin, has introduced us to Koru Care - a voluntary organisation that has the aim of bringing joy into the lives of children with serious illness or permanent disabilities by visiting Disneyland and the Gold Coast.

Martin's son, Finn, has been chosen by the Koru Kids as one of 50 children to participate in a trip to Disneyland this year. Martin is helping fundraise for this event by running the Rotorua Marathon on May 3rd. We wish Finn an awesome trip to Disneyland, and good luck to Martin for the marathon!


APRIL 2008: Spam filter upgrade
Clients who use the Kudos spam filter should have noticed a drop in the level of spam being received in the last few days. This is thanks to a new 'greylist' feature our provider has delivered which has been activated on all mailboxes we provide with a spam filter. For more information please contact us.
Costs are: $5 per month for a mailbox; $8 per month for a spam filter ('greylist' add-on no charge).


FEBRUARY 2008: Domain name scams
As always, please be aware of domain name scams. We recently we received one in the post ourselves - it looks like an invoice from the 'Domain Registry of America' and is headed 'Domain Name Expiration Notice'.

There is also an email circulating with the subject: 'Dispute of network domain name and trademark' followed by content along the lines of: 'We received a formal application from a company who is applying to register "your company name" as their domain name in China...' this email goes on to try and sell you a number of domain names you don't need.

If you receive something like this feel free to check with us, but chances are it's just a scam.


JANUARY 2008: Supporting The Jane Gifford
This year we are supporting a local project by providing web and photography services to The Jane Gifford Society. The Jane Gifford, built in 1908 at Whangateau, is the country's last remaining rigged sailing scow. She arrived at Robertson's Boatyard in Warkworth by road transport in a near derelict state and is being restored by boat builders and volunteers. She will be moored at the Warkworth Wharf and will be available to the public for charters, educational trips, special occassions and as a training ship. APRIL 2007: Photography Distinction
We are pleased to announce that Jay (Kudos web design's photographer), has been awarded the honour and distinction of 'Licentiate of The Photographic Society of New Zealand'. This is a significant occasion recognising Jay's continuing photographic development and marked by an appropriate recognition arising from the recommendation of a panel of distinguished PSNZ members. Jay was formally acknowledged with the announcement of his new status at the PSNZ Honours Banquet in New Plymouth during the PSNZ National Convention this month.

AUGUST 2006: Domain Name Letter Warning
We have been made aware of a letter currently being sent to .co.nz domain name registrants seeking fees for the registration of the .net.nz version of their domain name. The letters being sent look similar to an invoice which may cause confusion as registrants are under no obligation to proceed with the registration or payment requested.

JUNE 2005: What's Simon up To?
Many of our clients know Simon Hertnon - if you have been wondering what he is up to - Simon is devoting his energies to his new communications company, Nakedize. Nakedize specializes in uncovering small solutions to big problems and Simon has been delighted and overwhelmed by the success of its first service, the nakedgrammar business writing course, which teaches people how to write less and achieve more.

MARCH 2005: FHINZ - The World in a Woolshed (March 2005 Consumer Magazine Article)
The March 2005 edition of Consumer Magazine includes an article written by David Hindley, that gives readers a sensible 'where to start guide' for developing a web site. The article features comments from Heather and Warwick Grady for whom Kudos web design developed the Farm Helpers In New Zealand web site fhinz.co.nz.

David Hindley writes: Heather and Warwick Grady have built a small home business, Farm Helpers in New Zealand. They sell a booklet with details of farms throughout the country where you can get free meals and accommodation in return for some work on the farm.
"About half our customers come to us through the web site, including almost all our customers overseas," they told us. "The web site has more than paid for itself."
The site includes a discussion board and a secure credit card payment system. The Gradys make changes to some sections of the site themselves; other changes are made by the designer at an hourly rate, but the Gradys say this has worked out to be quick and relatively inexpensive.


FEBRUARY 2005: Top Tourism Site Award
This month, evergreenlodge.co.nz, designed by Kudos web design, has been awarded a 'Top Tourism Site Award'. This is an award given to leading tourism sites that enhance New Zealand as a travel destination. To be eligible sites must have useful and informative content, be laid out in a professional and aesthetic manner and be designed effectively for the web. Other aspects such as; interactivity, originality, outstanding graphic quality, and marketing reach, are also be taken into account.

The judge's comments were "An upscale, award-winning bed and breakfast, renowned for its outstanding hospitality, service and rooms overlooking the magnificent Lake Wakatipu and mountains beyond. Their visually appealing web site uses the contrast of muted colours and high quality images to show off the understated elegance of Evergreen Lodge."

On November 28th, the New York Times published an article about Waiheke Island - 'Days of Wine and Beaches in New Zealand'. NOVEMBER 2004: Tangaroa Wins - Most Popular Garden
Waiheke staged the annual Retravision Jassy Dean Trust Garden Safari, during the weekend of Nov 21st, where 17 gardens were selected to open to the public. This year the 'Helen Routledge Trophy', awarded for the most popular garden, was won by Tangaroa. OCTOBER 2004: Intoducing Jay

SEPTEMBER 2004: A Fusion of Art
Peter Latham featured in the Northern News on Sept 22nd in a review about his new canvas photo art range. Art critic, Larry Jenkins, wrote "It's a fusion of art and high tech in a very intimate way, and Latham is a master photographer." Peter's current exhibition is on from Sept 17th - Oct 2nd at The Art Bungalow in Kerikeri, Bay of Islands. SEPTEMBER 2004: Barb's Becoming a Student!
Barbara joined us back in September 2003 as Project Manager and has now committed to furthering her knowledge and formalising her skills by signing up for Media Design School's Diploma of Digital Media, starting in February 2005. Prior to this, Barbara will also be doing Natcoll's iCreate foundation course, which focuses on creative digital design and will be an excellent grounding for the diploma to follow. For the duration of her studies Barbara will continue her involvement with Kudos.

Evergreen Lodge in Queenstown, featured in the Sunday Star Times 'Magazine' on Sept 5th. The magazine referred to Evergreen as a 'Lake Surprise', and named the lodge as one of the top four places to stay in Queenstown. An article, Trendy Meets Traditional, in the Summer issue of Alfresco magazine features several of Dave Martin's pieces from Ashlar Arts. A second mass mail out by Australian-based company, Domain Names NZ, is currently circulating. Other aspects such as; interactivity, originality, outstanding graphic quality, and marketing reach, may also be taken into account.

The judge's comments were "Influenced both by Mediterranean architecture and the curves of the matau (Maori fish hook), Delamore Lodge is a luxury retreat on Waiheke Island. Their web site plays to their strong suit, using plenty of photographs and including video tours of the accommodation."

NOV 2002: NZAJLT Site Launched
On the 1st of November, Hayley attended the launch of a new site, developed by Kudos web design, for the New Zealand Association of Japanese Language Teachers (NZAJLT), japanese.ac.nz.

The evening's programme included a fabulous Yosakoi Soran Dance by the 'Haeremai' Dance Group, a welcome from the president of NZAJLT, Janis Maidment, followed by a speech from Mr Tatsuo Mizuno, the Consul-General of Japan, and the official opening of japanese.ac.nz by the Hon. Trevor Mallard, Minister of Education.


NOV 2002: MANZ Charity Auction - Kwd Donated Site Live
At the MANZ (Motel Association of New Zealand) conference each year, a worthwhile charity is designated to be the beneficiary of fundraising which takes place during a gala dinner. This year, the board chose Books in Homes (BIH) as the charity to support. AUG 2002 : NZ Site of the Month!
One of our recent projects, www.aucklandwaterfront.org.nz, is featured in the latest issue of Net Guide magazine (www.netguide.co.nz) as NZ Site of the Month! This is the official web site for 'The Tank Farm Project' - a project to create a master plan for the redevelopment of a large part of the Auckland city waterfront - stretching from the Harbour Bridge to the Viaduct Harbour.

The site includes dynamic news and public input pages so that you can have your say about aspects of the project - these sections of the site are administered and updated by the owners of the site via a customised online administration area also built by Kudos web design using Cold Fusion programming.

MAY 2002 : Nameholder fee Removed
The new Name Holder fee that was charged to customers registering their first .nz Domain Name has been removed. The removal of this fee reduces the costs of registering a new .nz domain name from $74 + GST to only $44 + GST. More information...


APR 2002 : Hayley Takes Over
On April 2nd, Hayley took over ownership and management of Kudos web design after working for the agency for six months as web designer / manager. Hayley will be focused on developing the growth and customer service of Kudos web design and Simon will work as a consultant part-time for the agency as well as continue his e-commerce businesses and writing career.


OCT 2001 : Hayley Joins the Kwd Team
Hayley joined Kwd as web designer/trainee manager. She has three years experience as a web designer and will gradually be taking over the management of the agency as Simon develops his consultancy and writing work.

AUG 2001: Evergreen Lodge Wins Again
Kwd client Evergreen Lodge have again won the New Zealand Tourism Award for best hosted accommodation. Congratulations John and Gary! Their web site (evergreenlodge.co.nz) features a restricted-access online booking availability system which was part of their award entry.
